On September 11^th, in addition to terrible events, something remarkable happened. The world saw the fierce, incredible courage of NYC's and Washington D.C.'s firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians, court officers, Port Authority police officers, soldiers and Federal agents. We also saw how ordinary citizens responded, not only to the tragedy, but to our sudden understanding just how much we owe our first responders.

One thing we learned — as courageous, as heroic and as trained as they are, they are also human. The tears they shed, the pain they feel, the stresses they suffer, are the things we all share.

But first responders deal with issues and problems no civilian does. And their families absorb stresses that civilian families don't.

Our Tribute to our nation's first responders is not just a dedication to their work, it is also an education in how they, their families and their friends can work together to take care of one another, and keep themselves healthy and strong.
